The diesel engine has a heavy sound, & black smoke

Diesel engines are required for heavy-duty jobs and humans are not heavy duty so it's not needed for passenger cars

Loud noise, more vibrations

It is more expensive, power - to -weight ratio is low. 

Diesel engines have higher torque but not too efficient with speed.

For passenger comfort, petrol engineered vehicles have a quieter operation than diesel ones that have tensional vibrations. Petrol vehicles have longer service span than diesel, thus pocket friendlier in terms of maintenance.

when you talking about commercial vehicles, it is due to- Vibration due to much power generation. very costly, and expensive to maintain. less speed than petrol engines.

So diesel engines are not popular for cars.....
